I got my bank account drained at a coffee shop in Austin because I used their public Wi-Fi without thinking.
The hacker set up a fake network with the shop's name, and I lost $1,200 before I even finished my latte, so what's the safest way to check your balance on the go now?

Same thing happened to me at an airport. I only use my phone's data now, never public wifi.

Yeah, it's just not worth the risk anymore. I tried using airport wifi once to check my bank account and got a weird login page that looked off. Now I just eat the data charges, it's cheaper than dealing with a stolen credit card. You can't even trust the "official" networks at some places, can you?

Used to think people were overreacting about public wifi until my hotel's "secure" lobby network redirected me to a sketchy PayPal login page. Total wake-up call. @alex_king33 nailed it, I just use my mobile data now too. Honestly not worth the headache over saving a few bucks.
