Just moved for work and my crane license has extra hoops to jump through

I took a job in a new state and learned my certification needs more tests. I've been running cranes for a long time with no problems. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me, but why can't all states agree on one set of rules? It's frustrating to prove myself all over again.

That "prove myself all over again" feeling is everywhere once you start looking. It's like when you register a car in a new place and they need three different forms you never heard of. Or even simple stuff, different grocery stores put the milk in a different aisle. Makes you wonder why everything has to be its own little kingdom.

But why do we even put up with those little kingdoms? Makes me think it's less about helping people and more about each place keeping control. Isn't the real cost all the wasted time and mental energy everyone has to spend? Feels like a designed inefficiency, like they want you to just give up.

My cousin is a nurse in Florida and had to retake a bunch of tests when she moved to Oregon. It was a pain, but she said their earthquake prep standards were totally different. Sometimes the local rules exist because the local risks are different, you know? A crane in a coastal area might have different wind rules than one in a valley. It's annoying, but it's not always about control.
