Showerthought: My $300 band saw blade sharpener is either the best tool in my shop or a total waste of money.
It saves me a fortune on new blades, but my old-timer boss says a steady hand and a good file is all you ever need. Which side are you on?

My boss Frank still uses the same hand sharpener from 1987, and his blades look like they've been chewed on. He swears by it, but I spend half my Monday fixing the ragged cuts on my projects. Hollym12, you hit the nail on the head, because I'm pretty sure his "steady hand" just means he's learned to wobble in a consistent pattern. I've started sneaking my tools to the electric sharpener when he's on lunch.
