Last week on a job in Portland I had a whole ceiling start sagging on me. Mud was too thick and I didn't let the tape set right. Had to tear down 3 boards and start over. Lost half a day and pissed off the lead. What do you do when your tape job goes sideways? Do you scrape and re-tape or just cut it out fresh?

Picked bone-in over boneless for a whole hog and it was worth the extra work

I had to choose between breaking down a whole hog bone-in or having the farmer do the boneless half for me ahead of time. I went with bone-in because I wanted to practice my seam butchering on something bigger than just loins and shoulders. Took me about 4 hours from start to finish, and my knife skills were shaky at first on the ribs. But once I got into the rhythm, I ended up with some really clean cuts on the Boston butt and picnic shoulder. The backfat came off in nice slabs too, which I rendered down for lard. Has anyone else found that bone-in gives you more control over the final cuts, or do you prefer the convenience of pre-boned?

My Minolta X-700 shutter finally jammed mid-roll at a swap meet last Saturday

I was lining up a shot of some old vinyl records when the mirror locked up and the shutter just stopped clicking. Had to finish the roll by manually advancing and guessing exposures with a phone light app, has anyone else dealt with a stuck shutter on the X-700?

Vent: A security guard called me out for taking photos at Mountain View Mall

I was at this old place outside Akron last month, the one with the indoor waterfall that's been dry for 10 years. This guard comes up and says I need a permit to photograph the property, like I'm shooting a movie or something. He made me delete my shot of the old Orange Julius kiosk with the faded sign. Now I always bring a small notepad and sketch quick details instead of using my phone for photos, since nobody questions a guy with a notebook. Has anyone else run into pushback from mall security while documenting these places?

Frozen puddle on my driveway looked like a stained glass window this morning

Went out to get the paper around 7am last Tuesday. There was this thin layer of ice on the concrete with leaves trapped underneath. The sun hit it just right and it shined all blue and orange. I took like ten photos before it melted. Kinda made me want to frame one of them.

Tried replicating a GeoCities page layout from 1998 using pure CSS and it took me 3 hours to realize tables were actually easier

Spent all afternoon fighting flexbox to get that neon green text over a tiled star background to line up right and finally gave up and used a table layout like the original and it worked in 5 minutes, has anyone else found modern tools just overcomplicate the old look?
