Saw a guy in Portland's Powell's Books writing a novel on a typewriter

Ngl you hit on something real there. I've had the same thing happen in a laundromat actually, watching this old guy fold his shirts real precise like he was in the military or something. Made me wonder if he was doing it out of habit or if he was just trying to keep his hands busy so he didn't have to think about whatever brought him there at 2 AM. The hum of the dryers almost felt like it was pushing the story along.

Saw a landlord's DIY chimney job in Baltimore that made me cringe

My dad once fixed a broken garden hose with duct tape and it lasted THREE summers before it finally gave out. I think it was the good stuff cause that hose had been chewed on by the dog and run over by the lawnmower more times than I can count. He swore by the Gorilla brand tape cause the cheap stuff would peel off in the rain. But now I'm wondering if that hose really just held together out of pure spite.

Vent: Tried to make my grandmother's apple cake recipe and it turned into a flat disc

Did you sift the flour before measuring it?

I found an old PC building forum from 2003 that still had active mods

Wait, "still had active mods" cleaning up spam? That kind of blows my mind a little. I found an old Dreamcast hacking forum once where the last real post was from 2012, but the admin had logged in a few times last year just to update the SSL cert (I guess so the site would still load without a security warning?). It feels like some people just can't let go of their little corner of the internet (which I kinda get, honestly). Seeing a mod delete spam on a forum about Pentium 4s seems like they're just keeping the lights on out of pure stubbornness or nostalgia.

Just realized my grandpa's old anvil is actually worth a ridiculous amount

Bet you're scared to even hammer a nail with it now.
