inPro tip: don't buy the $40 'mall explorer' guidebook I just wasted my money on
Ugh that's the worst! I mean I got a guide like that for a state park once and half the trails on the map were closed. It feels like such a scam when they don't even try to update the info. You're right, you just end up paying to be disappointed. I'd rather take my chances with a free blog post.

inAn old guy at the lumberyard in Boise said my dovetails looked like a beaver chewed them
My grandpa kept a stub of carpenter's pencil in his hatband, same idea as @reese_hill's guy. It's that old school thing where the fix isn't more thinking, it's one physical rule. Like my mom telling me to listen for the sizzle, not watch the clock, when searing a steak. Or a mechanic saying to turn the wrench until it 'feels tight' then stop. The best advice is always a simple action that cuts through all the noise in your head.

inWarning: I thought wet sanding was just extra work until it saved a blotchy stain job.
Totally get it! I once tried to fix a bad stain like @vera482 mentioned and ended up sanding right through the veneer.
