Tried a $15 sleeping bag liner instead of my usual $200 bag

Three winters back I tried a $200 liner that was supposed to be the best thing ever and it didn't even keep me warm at 40 degrees. @rosek73 you're probably right that a random fleece from home would outdo half these overpriced options. I think most of these ratings are just companies paying for good reviews. My old Columbia fleece from Goodwill is still my go-to for camping.

Had a chat with a neighbor in his 70s about password managers

68 million passwords leaked from NordPass last year alone, and that's just one breach. I used to be all about password managers, but stories like that really changed my mind. Now I'm back to using a notebook for my most important logins.

Can we talk about that 'don't use spaces in filenames' advice?

i mean, that specific advice really was about keeping things simple for older systems, but it's kinda wild how that same lesson pops up everywhere. @terryj45 you're not wrong that those angelfire days were rough. but honestly, i've found this little rule applies to a lot more than just filenames. like, anytime i try to name a document or even a folder on my phone now, i catch myself leaving out spaces just out of habit. it's like that one tiny rule from back in the day stuck with me because it actually prevented a ton of headaches later. maybe it's just me, but i think that whole "keep it simple" idea is something we kinda overlook in everyday stuff too, not just tech. it's like life's way of saying don't make things harder than they need to be, you know?

The stat about grocery store markups made me mad

oh man the 40% markup thing, that hit me hard too when i first saw it. i actually started doing something similar last spring after i got fed up with paying almost 4 bucks for a head of broccoli at my local giant. i switched to this small co-op near my place and now i just buy what's in season and plan my meals around that. the key for me was cutting down waste because i used to buy too much at the grocery store and half of it would rot. now i go twice a week with a list and it's way cheaper plus the produce actually tastes better. the only catch is i have to be flexible with my recipes but honestly that made me a better cook.

Some ATV rider told me to stop leaning forward on steep climbs and it changed everything

Knew a guy who wrecked his quad doing the lean forward thing for years before some stranger finally told him the same advice.
