My gooseneck kettle started leaking from the base last Tuesday, right before my morning pour-over.

Two years of daily use and it just gives out? That's barely 730 pours. My cheap travel kettle from a discount store lasted five years before the button got weird. It feels like these nicer brands use weaker materials on purpose.

Serious question, why does everyone say to just use the library?

Feel your pain, that's so frustrating. Libraries can be a total mess sometimes, especially for niche stuff. The online catalog is never up to date and the wait is a killer. I've had the same thing happen looking for old car manuals.

PSA: I tried working from a coworking space in Medellin for a week and my bill was way higher than expected

I mean, maybe it's just me but I feel like that's kind of expected? Those places always have extra fees for meeting rooms or printing or whatever. I looked into it last year and the day pass was cheap but adding anything made it add up fast. You gotta read the fine print on what's included.

Warning: Skipping moisture checks before laying laminate flooring ruined my subfloor.

Mary's totally right, skipping that step is asking for trouble. We had to replace a whole section of laminate in our old place because we didn't seal properly. Paulyoung makes a good point about warranties too, a lot of companies will look for any reason not to pay out. It's just one of those jobs where cutting corners always costs more later.

The great 'paint the ceiling first' debate in my Mill Woods kitchen

My friend Mike did the exact same thing in his basement last fall. He painted this awesome dark blue on the walls first and was so proud of it. Then he did the ceiling white and got little dots of paint all over his new walls. He was so mad he almost left them there as "art". Ceiling first is a rule for a reason, even if the wall color is way more fun to look at.
