Found a 2002 fan site for a forgotten cartoon still running on a free host

I was looking up old Flash games and clicked a link to a site called 'Cartoon Chaos'... it's still up on some free web host with a Geocities-style banner. The last update was in 2002, talking about an episode that never aired. What got me was the guestbook, full of messages from 2003 asking if the site was dead. Has anyone else stumbled onto a time capsule like that, just left running?

Man that's wild, I find old sites like that all the time. If you really wanna fall down a rabbit hole, check the Wayback Machine for the same URL, you can sometimes see the whole slow death of a site. It's kinda sad seeing those guestbook messages just hanging there forever.

Honestly robin777 I get what you're saying but I don't find it sad at all. Tbh those old guestbooks and sites feel more like a time capsule to me, not a graveyard. It's kinda cool that a piece of someone's random 2002 self is still floating out there. The web moves so fast now, I like that some bits just get to stay.

Yeah, have you ever stumbled on a site that still has a "last updated: 2004" at the bottom? That one always gets me... It's like finding a Polaroid in a dusty box, all faded but still holding a moment. I get what you mean about the guestbook thing too. There's something really lonely about those old messages, like everyone just got up and left the party without saying goodbye. It's almost like reading someone's diary that they forgot to lock up. Makes me wonder if the person who built it even remembers it exists anymore...
