My old mountain bike needed a headset bearing preload set to 25 Newton-meters. Tried guessing with a regular wrench and nearly ruined the threads. Now I use a torque wrench on my bike pedals, seat post, and even my desk chair when it gets wobbly. It saves so many parts from getting stripped out.

inMy Pentax K1000 shutter froze solid at the worst time
Oh man, that's the worst kind of camera betrayal. My old Canon AE-1 pulled the same move right as my niece was blowing out her birthday candles. The mirror just locked up with a sad little clunk. I had to finish the party with my phone, which felt like cooking a fancy dinner and then serving microwave pizza.

inI went with a manual chart over the new digital load moment indicator on a big job in Tulsa
Man, that's wild. My buddy's GPS went rogue on a site in Nevada and tried to carve out a whole creek bed. His guy caught it because the dirt just looked wrong. Sometimes the old ways are the best backup.

inPSA: The 'wet sock' trick for a tight corner actually worked
That damp rag trick is basically a homemade version of a contour sponge. I keep a bag of cheap makeup wedges in my toolbox for the same reason. They're flexible enough to squish into any weird angle and they don't leave fibers behind like a rag sometimes can.
