Watching sparks fly near an airfield is never a good sign. You're right to be worried about safety codes being ignored. Backyard repairs on planes are a whole other level of risky. It's one thing to fix a lawnmower, but a Cessna engine? That's asking for trouble. Self-regulation sounds like a good idea, but who's going to step up and do it? Hopefully, someone takes notice before something goes really wrong.
