A wavy baseboard made me pick scissors for carpet trim
I stuck with my carpet knife for every trim job before. On a install with uneven walls, the knife kept catching and pulling the fibers. Another installer passed me his heavy scissors, and I got a straight line without fuss. So, for curved edges or tight spots, I go for scissors first to save time and carpet.

Forget switching to scissors, that just adds an extra step. A sharp carpet knife with a fresh blade will slice through any wavy edge cleanly if you use steady pressure. Scissors can mash the fibers and leave a ragged line that looks bad from certain angles. Honestly, carrying two tools just slows you down when a good knife technique handles everything.

Totally agree about the knife being cleaner. I had a job last year where I tried scissors on a tight curve and it looked fine from above, but from the side you could see all these mashed-down fibers (it was a real light colored berber, so it showed everything). Switched to just a fresh blade and slow, even pressure and the edge was perfect. That ragged line thing is so real.

That trick about using scissors FIRST on curved edges is smart, it flips the normal process. What specific kind of heavy scissors did the other installer hand you? Like, were they just hefty fabric shears or a dedicated carpet model? Knowing the exact tool helps picture the fix.
