Serious question, who checks for old ads before city repairs start?
I was driving through downtown and saw a crew pressure washing a brick wall. They were about to strip off a faded but clear 'Ice Cream' sign from the 1920s. Honestly, if no one speaks up, these pieces of history will vanish. Tbh, we need to tell local workers to look out for ghost signs before cleaning or painting.

Yeah it's honestly shocking they don't have a basic checklist for that. Once that paint is gone, it's just gone forever. A quick look from someone who knows what to spot could save so much local history. Seems like such a simple fix for the city to just train crews to pause and call it in. Really feels like common sense, but I guess it falls through the cracks every time.

Springfield's old factory district lost its original signs decades ago, and life went on fine. Sure, history matters, but cities have bigger issues like potholes and broken streetlights to fix first. @janaburns, I get your point, but maybe preserving every bit of paint isn't where resources should go.

Exactly, it's the training that's key. Our neighborhood lost a beautiful old pharmacy sign because the crew just saw "peeling paint" and not a historic piece. One phone call could have saved it.
