Camping gear has shifted to solo convenience, and I have mixed feelings

Ugh, hard disagree. The old way was a pain. Needing three people just to wrestle a tent meant I never went unless I could organize a whole group. Now I can grab my tiny tent and a sleeping bag and just go after work on a Tuesday. My solo trips with the easy gear are the only reason I still get outside at all.

Serious question, who checks for old ads before city repairs start?

Springfield's old factory district lost its original signs decades ago, and life went on fine. Sure, history matters, but cities have bigger issues like potholes and broken streetlights to fix first. @janaburns, I get your point, but maybe preserving every bit of paint isn't where resources should go.

My careful spine work turned my bindings around

Honestly that kind of time per book sounds wild to me. I get being careful, but an hour? I'd never finish my own stack. Feels like maybe they're overthinking the process, or maybe they're working with really rare books. What kind of project even needs that level of detail?

Hot take: Picking up pruning tricks from a trip south messed with my crew's routine

Totally get what you're saying. My friend up in Oregon had maple trees that kept getting hit by late frosts. She read about how desert plants are pruned to save water and handle heat, so she tried a similar cutback method in early spring. It sounded crazy to her local arborist team, but her trees ended up with thicker leaves and less frost damage. Those guys were so set on their schedule and their way, they argued it would harm the trees. But seeing her maples thrive now, it's clear that being flexible with techniques can make a big difference.
