My old phone bricked itself after a bad update three years ago and I'm still mad about it.

I had a perfectly good phone, no issues, until I hit 'install' on a system update one night. The next morning, it was a shiny black brick. Wouldn't turn on, couldn't get into recovery, nothing. I took it to a shop in Austin and the guy just shrugged and said, 'Yeah, that update killed a bunch of these.' I lost all my photos from a trip because I was dumb and hadn't backed up in a while. It completely changed how I read reviews now. I skip straight to the comments about software stability and update horror stories. Has anyone else had a gadget just die from an update like that?

Maybe they just had a bad batch of phones. Updates go wrong sometimes but it's not always a big company plot.

That shop in Austin just shrugged and said it killed a bunch of them? That's the part that gets me. The company knew there was a bad update going out and they didn't stop it. They let it brick a whole group of phones and then left people like you holding a dead piece of glass. It's one thing if it's a fluke, but a known batch killer is just a massive failure.
