What brand was it? I've heard some of the expensive ones are actually worse with certain paints.

Oh totally, you're onto something there. I've seen people swear by a cheap, basic sprayer for thin stains and lacquers, but then it totally chokes on a thick exterior paint. The expensive ones with more power can sometimes just blast that thicker paint around in a messy way if the settings aren't just right. It's less about the price and more about matching the tool's specs, like the tip size and pressure, to the paint you're actually using. A mismatch there will ruin your day fast.
