Tried drying my phone in a bag of rice and it actually got worse
I dropped my phone in a puddle last Tuesday and panicked. Stuck it in a bag of jasmine rice for 24 hours like everyone says. When I pulled it out, there was rice dust all in the charging port and the speaker sounded crackly. Turns out rice does nothing for moisture and just adds debris. Has anyone else had a DIY fix backfire that bad?

You say "rice does nothing for moisture" but I've pulled three phones out of rice over the last decade and they all worked fine after. One of them was submerged in a toilet for a solid five seconds. I think your problem was the jasmine rice specifically, that stuff is super dusty and brittle. You gotta use plain old long grain white rice, the cheap kind in the big bag, and seal it in a ziploc with all the air squeezed out. Did you tape over the charging port and speaker grilles before you put it in?

Honestly, is this really something we need to be so precise about? Seems like as long as it dries out eventually it's fine, right?
