My five year old nephew asked me why we call it a 'driveway' when we park there

I was dropping off a package at my sister's place in Springfield last Tuesday. Her kid was playing with toy cars on the floor and just looked up at me. He said, 'Aunt Tara, if you drive on the parkway and park in the driveway, why isn't it the other way?' I had to stop and think about it for a solid minute. I've been driving for a living for eight years and never once questioned it. Has anyone else had a kid point out something totally normal that makes zero sense?

That "totally normal that makes zero sense" thing kids notice is everywhere once you start looking. Like how we call it a "restroom" when nobody goes there to rest, or "shipping" a package when it goes in a truck. Your nephew's onto something, it's like the words got stuck and we all just agreed to not question it. Makes you wonder what else we're just saying on autopilot without it meaning what it says.

Wait, nobody actually rests in a restroom?
