Just found a 2005 version of my college's homepage on the Wayback Machine

It was all tables, flashing 'under construction' GIFs, and a guestbook. The current site is a single smooth page that loads in under two seconds. Makes you miss when the web felt more like a bunch of personal projects. Anyone else have a favorite old-school university site?

Remember when a guestbook was a key feature? Now if a site takes more than a second to load we just give up. That flashing 'under construction' sign was basically a promise of weird stuff to find, like a professor's page about his pet lizard. Now everything's just a smooth, boring box.

Those old sites had a weird charm. You could just click forever and find random stuff. It was a different kind of internet.
