Found a cached version of my old Tripod site from 2001 last night... what a mess

I was digging through the Wayback Machine for something else and stumbled on a cached copy of my Tripod page from when I was like 14. It had a crazy tiled background of floating dolphins and a MIDI file of 'Closing Time' that auto played. I used to spend hours on that thing thinking I was the next big web designer. Has anyone else found something nostalgic from their early internet days that makes you cringe but smile at the same time?

I saw a thread on Reddit the other day where someone compared their old GeoCities site to their current portfolio and it really made me think. My page had a visitor counter that I would refresh constantly to see if it went up, plus a guestbook full of comments from strangers like "cool site!" and "nice dolphins lol". The font choices were wild too, like I used like five different colors in one sentence. It's funny how proud we were of those pages back then. Did you actually keep any of the HTML files or just the cached version?

Gotta disagree with you there. Those old sites were pure cringe, not something to be proud of. I look back at mine and just cringe at the mismatched fonts and tacky GIFs. No way I'd keep those files, Wayback Machine is fine for the occasional laugh but that's it.
