My boss asked me to explain our social media drop to the board last week
We saw a 40% drop in engagement on our main Instagram account starting in early March. I tracked it back to a platform algorithm change that hit right after we switched our posting schedule. I had to pull data from Sprout Social and create a simple report showing the timeline. Has anyone else had to explain a sudden algorithm shift to non-marketing people, and what worked?

Yeah, explaining algorithm shifts to a board is rough. I had to do it last quarter. I made a one page slide with two lines. One line showed our normal engagement. The other line showed the exact date of the platform change. I called it a "platform rule change" not an algorithm. Then I listed three simple actions we were taking to adjust. Kept it super visual. They just need to see you know the cause and have a plan.

Call that the "executive translation" move. Smart to rename it something they actually get. Basically just turns a tech panic into a simple fix-it list.
