Appreciation post: That moment I realized my ad targeting was completely off

Last Thursday I was looking at my Facebook Ads Manager for a client in Austin, and I noticed our click-through rate was around 0.3% after running for 3 weeks. I finally decided to actually look at the audience breakdown and saw we were targeting people 18-24 for a retirement planning service. Has anyone else had a similar wake-up call where you just facepalm at your own setup?

0.3% for 3 weeks and you didn't catch it sooner? That must have been painful to see. I ran a campaign once for a local car dealership and realized we were targeting people interested in "luxury watches" instead of "auto repair." The numbers were horrible for a month before I noticed. It's amazing how easy it is to just trust the setup without double checking those tiny dropdown options.

Double down on what @the_robin said about those dropdown menus being sneaky. I swear they design them so you click the wrong thing without noticing until your budget is toast.
