A client said my emails sounded like a robot, so I rewrote everything
Last month a local bakery owner in Nashville told me my newsletter copy felt 'stiff and corporate'. She said it didn't sound like me at all. I had been using these formulaic templates from a course I bought. So I scrapped my whole strategy and started writing like I talk, with shorter sentences and even a few jokes. Anyone else get feedback that made you totally change your approach to copywriting?

Oh man, that totally hits home! My old boss used to mark up my drafts with "sounds like a textbook" in red pen. It was brutal, but it forced me to read everything out loud before sending. If I stumbled over a sentence, I knew it was too stiff and had to just say it simpler. That one habit changed everything for me.
