Why nobody talks about those shady USB charging stations at airports

I was at LAX last week waiting for my flight to Chicago and saw a guy plug his phone into one of those public charging kiosks near gate 24. He walked away for 5 minutes and came back to find his phone acting weird - apps opening by themselves and a weird text sent to his mom. Has anyone else seen these things cause issues or am I just being paranoid about juice jacking?

Man that sounds way more like a faulty phone or a weird glitch than anything malicious. Look at how many millions of people use those things everyday and the only stories you hear are from one guy at LAX.

Hear me out though, what if it's not even about the phone being faulty? What if the whole 'hearing things' is just someone's brain playing tricks on them because they're already paranoid about being tracked? I've had moments where I thought my phone was buzzing in my pocket and it was just my leg rubbing against fabric. Plus, airports are loud and stressful, your brain is literally looking for patterns that aren't there. People forget how powerful suggestion is - if you tell yourself you'll hear something, you probably will. Just saying, Occam's razor says it's more likely a tired brain than a government conspiracy.
