Turned on 2FA for my email and got locked out for 3 days

I finally decided to turn on two-factor authentication for my Gmail last week. Used the authenticator app option since everyone says that's the safest. Well I got a new phone 2 days later and completely forgot to transfer the accounts over. Had to jump through hoops with recovery codes I barely remembered I saved. What I learned was to write down the backup codes and stick them somewhere obvious first. Has anyone else been burned by switching phones right after enabling 2FA?

Never thought I'd be that guy but yeah... I'm a backup code convert now.

Learned this the HARD way myself, now I'm paranoid about backup codes.
