That one comment on my 404 page design made me rethink everything

Someone on the forum straight up told me my custom 404 page was "too fun and distracting" and that it made people leave the site instead of clicking back. At first I was mad since I spent like 3 hours on that illustration. But after checking my analytics I saw the bounce rate was 78% on that page. I changed it to just a simple broken link icon with a search bar and a direct link to home, bounce rate dropped to 34% in two weeks. Has anyone else had feedback that forced you to strip down a design you were proud of?

Yeah, totally. Had the same thing with my site's checkout flow. Kept adding features, ruined everything.

Used to think more features was always better. Totally changed my mind after that.
