Took me 8 years on a lattice boom to finally admit I was rigging my tag lines wrong

I used to keep the tag line tied off tight to the load thinking it gave me more control, but a safety officer showed me how leaving a little slack actually prevents the load from swinging into the cab. Has anyone else had to unlearn a bad habit from their first foreman?

Yeah I had a similar thing with my crane years ago. I used to crank the tag line tight too thinking it locked the load in place. But a old hand showed me that a bit of slack lets the load settle naturally and actually cuts down on the wild swinging. Now I keep maybe a foot or two of play and it makes a huge difference on the smoothness of the lift. It feels wrong at first but once you see it work you never go back.

Same here @kellymurphy, always pulled it tight. This flips everything I thought on its head.
