Just realized I've been cutting my tack strips wrong for years

I was helping my friend on a job in Spokane last month, and he asked why I always cut my strips with the pins facing up. I told him that's how my old boss taught me, so the pins would grab better. He showed me how cutting them with the pins facing down gives a cleaner break and keeps the metal from bending. I tried it on the next room and it worked way better, no more crushed pins or wasted strips. Has anyone else had to unlearn a basic habit like that?

Agree with @perez.elliot that it's just stubborn old habits we gotta break sometimes.

My old foreman swore by facing them up too, guess he was just wrong.

He wasn't wrong, just a different way to do it.
