Showerthought: My 'free' walking tour in Prague turned into a three-hour hunt for a guy with a green umbrella who kept getting lost.
Has anyone else had a budget tour go completely off the rails, and what's the weirdest thing you've gotten for free while traveling?

That blacksmith story from hannahs71 is actually kind of nice. I had a free walking tour in Edinburgh that was amazing, the guide knew everything. Sometimes you just get a good one.

That story about the umbrella guy is too real. Read a travel blog once where a "free" food tour in Bangkok just became following a confused student to seven different closed street stalls. The weirdest free thing was probably a handful of warm, freshly forged nails from a blacksmith in a tiny French village. He just pressed them into my hand with a smile and went back to work.
