Saw her doing dishes with the same side-swept hair and squinty grin and had to pull up a side-by-side on my phone. Has anyone else had a random everyday moment where someone's twin just appeared out of nowhere?

Hot take: the worst day on the trail is better than the best day at the office... or is it?

I did the John Muir Trail two summers ago and had one day near Evolution Basin that was just brutal. Woke up with a headache that wouldn't quit, my filter clogged after 3 liters, and I took a wrong turn that added 2 extra miles of talus scrambling. By the time I hit camp I was ready to quit the whole thing. But honestly? I look back on that day more fondly than the perfect ones with blue skies and easy grades. There's something about pushing through the garbage that sticks with you way more than the easy cruising. Meanwhile my friends who haven't hiked think I'm crazy for even saying that. Anybody else find that their worst days on trail end up being their favorite memories?

Used to hate auto-tune until I heard a 90s demo tape from my uncle's garage band

I always thought auto-tune was just pop garbage, but last weekend I found a cassette where my uncle and his buddies tried to record a cover of 'Take On Me' with zero pitch correction. The warbling was so bad it actually made me laugh and then appreciate why engineers use the stuff. Has anyone else heard a raw recording that flipped your opinion on a production trick?

Tried a DIY coax crimp with leftover RV parts... big mistake on a King Air

I used some old cable from a camper job to fix an antenna cable on a King Air 350 last Thursday. The signal was good for about 10 minutes then the whole comm crapped out mid-flight. Has anyone else had luck with random coaxial cable or am I just asking for trouble?

Comparing Aldi and Wegmans for my weekly groceries saved me $40 a month and the produce was actually better.

I tracked every dollar for 3 months, Aldi came out way ahead on staples like eggs and milk, and their avocados lasted 4 days longer than Wegmans ones did, anyone else notice a big difference between store brands?

That shortcut near Eagle Creek took me 6 hours longer than I planned

I was hiking the Eagle Creek loop in Oregon last fall and decided to take this "alternate trail" I found on an old blog... turned out it was barely used and I had to bushwhack through a huge blowdown area. Took me from noon until almost dark to cover what should have been 3 miles. Anyone else ever follow a trail that looked fine on paper but was a total mess on the ground?

Tried swapping my lawn for native plants after that drought last summer in Phoenix

Water bill hit $280 in July. I was done. Ripped out the front yard grass and put in desert sage and red yucca. Took a Saturday and maybe $60 in plants from a local nursery. Now my bill is under $100 and I haven't watered since October. Did anyone else's HOA give them crap for this? Mine sent a letter and I'm fighting it.

Changed my mind about the old style tube benders after a job at the refinery

Was always a fan of those hydraulic benders for big pipe, figured the old manual lever benders were obsolete. Then we were working a tight spot on Unit 4 at the Whiting refinery last month with no room for the hydraulic setup. The foreman grabbed a Ridgid manual bender and showed me how he could creep it around a 6 inch radius section tight to a wall. Saw him do a 90 degree bend in like 3 minutes with zero kinks. Now I keep one in my truck for tight spots, never thought I'd say that. Anyone else have a tool they swore was outdated until a real situation proved you wrong?

My grandma's sourdough starter secret changed everything last Saturday

I was over at my grandma's house helping her clean out her pantry and she pulled out this mason jar with a starter she's had since 1987. She told me she feeds it with pineapple juice instead of water once a month and that's why it never goes bad. I tried it on my own starter that was getting sluggish and within 2 days it was bubbling like crazy. Has anyone else ever heard of using fruit juice in a starter?

Found an old VHS tape at a thrift store in Boise that was labeled "Stan's Birthday 1993"

I popped it in at home and it turned out to be 45 minutes of some guy filming his cats and nothing else, not even a single party scene. The weird part was the last 30 seconds where the screen went black and then a voice just whispered "happy birthday" really slow and distorted, like it was underwater. Has anyone else grabbed a random tape that had something totally unexpected buried in it?
