I spent $300 on a thermal camera for board-level repair and it was a total waste for my shop.

Man, that's a real bummer and I totally get the feeling.

A prep cook in Portland mentioned they never salt their mirepoix until the onions are translucent.

Yeah that Austin style is no joke. I heard some folks down there even throw in a square of dark chocolate at the end, melts right in. Gives it this deep, rich flavor without being sweet. My cousin swears by a splash of coffee too, says it makes the spices pop. Honestly might try both next time I make a pot.

Cutting carpet squares for a whole day before the homeowner asked why I didn't just use the grid lines

Yeah, the "perforated lines" thing is so real. I spent a whole weekend trimming laminate planks with a saw before my dad showed me the scoring tool that came in the box.

Overheard a guy at the supply house say he never checks torque specs on lugs, just goes by feel. That's wild to me.

My old beater truck lost a wheel at like 45 mph because I just cranked the lugs with an impact. I mean, the sound alone was enough to make me buy a torque wrench the next day. It's not just about them coming loose, you can mess up the studs or the rotor real easy by going too tight. That click from the wrench is the most satisfying sound now, because it means I did it right. Maybe it's just me but I don't trust my "feel" after that mess.

My friend in Denver called my recycling bin 'wish-cycling' after seeing my takeout containers

Honestly, I kind of hate how complicated it's gotten. My city's list has so many exceptions, like some plastics are okay but others with the same number aren't. It feels like you need a degree just to throw out a yogurt cup. Does your friend actually follow all the rules, or is she just giving you a hard time?
