TIL steel wool can make a finish pop

Seeing the smooth sheen it gave my last project changed my mind about using it for final touches.

My buddy used steel wool on his cast iron grill grates once. Left little metal bits everywhere that rusted overnight. Had to scrub the whole thing with vinegar for an hour. He won't touch the stuff now.

My old woodshop teacher showed me how to use 0000 grade steel wool with paste wax on walnut. It leaves a perfect satin finish without any dust. You have to use the right grade and clean the surface well after. Craig.grace might not get it, but that light abrasion is the whole point for a lot of finishes. What happened to wades76's buddy is exactly why you don't use it on things you cook with. For sealed wood, it's a totally different story and works great.
