My old boss swore by thinning shellac with denatured alcohol, but I just had a project in Phoenix turn sticky.

He always said it was the only way to get a smooth finish on oak, but the heat here made it dry way too fast and left a gummy mess. What do you folks in dry climates use to cut your shellac?

Yeah, the desert heat will do that. Try cutting it with a bit of Everclear instead, works better out here.

Just watch the plastic seals in your gear.
