Saw a guy skip preheating his ladle on a big pour last shift

He went straight in with a cold ladle and got a steam explosion that sent aluminum everywhere. I've seen this go wrong three times in 10 years and it always ends with someone getting burned. Anyone else have a close call from rushing the basics?

Right? I had a guy do that same thing on a midnight shift back in '18. Cold ladle hit the melt and it sounded like a shotgun went off. Sent a wave of hot metal across the floor, took us an hour to clean up. He was real lucky nobody was standing too close. That kind of shortcut just isn't worth it, man.
