Our 5-ton overhead crane's main hoist brake started slipping during a pour last Thursday.
It was a big gray iron job, and the brake just wouldn't hold the load steady, causing a scary swing. I had to signal an emergency stop and we had to finish the shift using the auxiliary hoist. What's your go-to fix for a sudden brake failure, a full rebuild or just swapping the pads and adjusting?

Emergency stop during a pour" sounds terrifying, man. Reminds me of a gym cable snap that whipped past a client's head.

Ever notice how a bad brake feels like a cheap office chair slowly sinking? We had a pallet racking collapse once that started with a single beam clip giving out. Same kind of quiet, then sudden dread. For your crane, I would not trust a pad swap after a slip during a pour. That's a full teardown to check the drum and linkages.
