My crew thought I was crazy for using a garden sprayer on a core box
We had a stubborn sand mix that kept sticking in a complex core box for a gear housing. Everyone said to just ram it harder and use more release. Last Tuesday, I filled a clean two-gallon garden sprayer with a 50/50 mix of water and denatured alcohol. I gave the box a light mist before each pour, just enough to dampen the sand surface. The cores popped out clean every time for the whole run. Has anyone tried a different liquid mix that works better?

Ever try a bit of WD-40 instead?

That 50/50 water and alcohol mix is a clever fix for release. What was the drying time like between your mist and pouring the sand? I've heard of guys using a light kerosene spray in some shops, but that always seemed like a fire risk to me.
