Found a weird local history site while looking up my street name

I was trying to figure out why my street is called 'Cedar' when there aren't any cedars around. I ended up on some old town forum from 2008 that said it was named after a guy's dog in the 1920s. The whole site was just scanned photos of old maps and typed-up stories from people who lived here. It felt like a real find, not something an app would ever show me. Has anyone else dug up something cool about their own neighborhood this way?

That's actually a great find. Did the site mention what kind of dog it was, or just that it was the guy's pet?
