Chatting with a colleague totally changed my home buying plan
I was sure I needed to live right near my job to avoid long drives. Then I had coffee with a colleague who bought a place way out in a quieter area. She explained her job allows her to be home for a few days each week, so the commute doesn't matter as much. Hearing that made me see I could get a bigger house for the same price if I looked farther out. I never considered asking about flexible hours before, but I decided to try. My manager said yes to two remote days per week, which was a game changer. Now I'm searching for homes with extra rooms instead of tiny city spots. That quick talk really flipped my whole approach to buying a first home.

Wait, your manager just said yes like that? That's wild. Mine would need a whole committee meeting for that.

Seriously, you gotta frame it as a done deal that just needs their sign-off. I started sending my manager a one line summary with "approve?" at the end. Cuts through so much of the usual back and forth, right?
