PSA: Local barns are switching to glue-on shoes for rehab cases

I worked on a laminitis case yesterday and the owner showed me their new setup. They've moved away from nails completely for these sensitive horses. It's cleaner and seems to reduce stress on the hoof wall. I'm curious if anyone else is getting more requests for this method.

Honestly the prep work is what makes or breaks it. We spend forever cleaning and drying the hoof wall before the glue even comes out. Found that using a wire brush on the white line area gives the adhesive something to really grip onto. Takes longer but lasts way better between resets.

Which wire brush stiffness works best for that?

Forget the wire brush for a sec. The real game changer is what you're cleaning off before you start. If the horse has been in a wet stall or pasture, that hoof wall is holding way more moisture than you think, even if it looks dry. I'll sometimes hit it with a heat gun on low for a minute, just to be sure. That extra step makes the glue bond way stronger than any surface scratch from a brush.
