Hit 50 dead 2018 MacBook Air logic boards this morning and it's starting to feel like a curse.

I keep a tally on a whiteboard, and seeing that exact number made me realize how many of these things are failing from the same flexgate/backlight issue that Apple won't fix for free anymore.

Actually, that's the 2016 model with the bad cable...

Actually, the 2018 Air has a different problem. That model uses a ribbon cable that's too short. It tears over time just from opening and closing the lid. I've seen dozens fail exactly the same way, screen goes dark or gets stage lighting at the bottom. It's a clear design flaw, but they never did a repair program for it like they did for the 2016 MacBook Pro.

Oh wow, fifty... that's a special kind of bad luck. At this point, you should probably just draw a little frowny face next to the tally. It's the official monument to a design flaw they just decided to stop caring about. Really makes you feel the love, huh.
