My weekend thing is wiring old fans into lamps. Got told it's a waste of time.

I pick up busted ceiling fans from job sites. Rewire them with LED bulbs. Guys on the crew laugh at me. But I learn more about motor circuits this way. My place has cool lights now.

Seems like a lot of work for a lamp you could just buy. The crew laughing kinda proves it's not a practical skill. But hey, whatever makes you happy.

Exactly, it's about the skill not the lamp. Learning to wire something yourself is way more useful long term than just buying a finished product. That knowledge sticks with you.
