The mud pan I swore by for years got beat by a cheap plastic one

I've been using this old steel mud pan for like 8 years, thought it was the best thing ever. Then last week I grabbed a $3 plastic pan from the hardware store cause I forgot mine, and it was way easier to clean and didn't rust up on me. Anyone else made the switch from steel to plastic and noticed a big difference?

Bro "swore by for years got beat by a cheap plastic one" - that's exactly how it went for me too. I had a steel pan I thought was bulletproof but the rust spots drove me crazy. After I switched I noticed plastic doesn't scratch up my trowel edge either. But does the plastic one flex too much for you when you're loading it up with heavy mud? That's the one thing I still hate.

Man, tell me about it! A buddy of mine had the same exact problem. He bought one of those expensive steel pans from a specialty store, thought he was set for life. Then he left it in his truck overnight after a job, and the next morning it was covered in rust spots. He switched to a cheap plastic pan from the hardware store and hasn't looked back since. He said the plastic doesn't mess up his trowel edge either, and he likes how light it is. I guess he just got used to the flex after a few mixes, but I hear you on that heavy mud thing - it's a trade-off for sure.

Eight years on steel and you just changed my mind with that rust point.
