Stop running your dredge pump dry for even 5 seconds to clear a clog

I watched a guy on the barge next to mine burn out his pump seal last Tuesday because he thought 'just a quick dry run' would save time, and it cost him $800 in parts and a full day of downtime - has anyone else seen this habit wreck equipment on your crew?

Yep, seen three seals go that way myself.

derekp70 says three seals went that way, but I've seen guys run them dry for longer and get away with it. Is it really that catastrophic every time or just sometimes?
