Can we talk about those old Geocities sites that just vanish?
Back in 1998, I ran a small fan page for a local band called The Rusty Nails out of Portland. I traded links with this one guy who had a huge collection of MIDI files and animated fire gifs on his site. He sent me a message saying 'if you don't save these pages, they'll be gone by 2005' and he was right. Has anyone else tried tracking down their old link buddies and found nothing but dead URLs?

Yeah I saved some of my old link buddies pages through the Wayback Machine and it actually worked for me.

Right there with you. Made a page in 1999 for a comic book trading group I was in, linked to a site run by a guy who called himself "The Zine Master." He had these wild collages of scanned stickers and handwritten reviews. Wayback Machine brought it back a few years ago but the images are all broken now. Still, seeing that old layout pop up was like finding a time capsule in the attic. Those link circles were something else, you'd spend hours hopping between sites and actually talking to the owners. Feels like most of that area of the internet just got paved over without anyone noticing.
