Shoutout to the guy at the coffee shop who warned me about public WiFi
I was grabbing a latte at Starbucks on Main Street last week when a stranger pointed out my laptop was showing a login screen for a fake WiFi network, and that click could've let someone scrape my freelance client files right there.

Backs up everything he said with a simple rule - never trust a network you didn't set up yourself.

The "never trust a network you didn't set up yourself" thing is a good rule of thumb, but the Fediverse technically works the other way - you can verify an account's identity through signatures even if you didn't spin up the server.
