Switched my rigging setup after 15 years of using the same method

I used to always do a four-part line with a spreader bar for heavy lifts at the Port of Seattle, but after a near miss last June where a sling slipped, I swapped to a straight two-point bridle with nylon straps. Now I'm getting better load control and less swing, but it took me that close call to finally change. Has anyone else switched their rigging style after a long time and felt like it was a gamble that paid off?

Heard about a guy at another terminal who had a similar close call. Switched from chain to synthetic slings after a load shifted bad. Said it was the best move he ever made. Your point about taking a gamble is true though. Feels risky changing something you been doing for 15 years. But your near miss proves the old way had flaws.

That other guy is right. I swapped to synthetic last year and haven't looked back.
