Serious question, who else has had a boom hoist brake fail on them mid-lift?

Last Tuesday I was picking a 12-ton AC unit on a job site in Phoenix and the brake pedal went straight to the floor, and I had to ride the load down using the clutch while praying I didn't swing into the building next to me. Has anyone else dealt with a sudden brake failure like that and how did you handle it?

Not the brakes, but I've had clutch failure mid lift. Scary stuff.

Jumped right off the seat and grabbed the manual override lever before the load even started dropping fast. That thing saved me from putting a 12-ton unit through a third floor window. The brake pedal felt totally normal on the pre-lift check too, which is what gets me. Had to have the whole master cylinder rebuilt after that job because it was leaking fluid internally. Still get a little sweaty thinking about that moment.
