Overheard a foreman say a 60 ton grove was overkill for a 2 ton beam lift
It got me thinking about how often we just grab the biggest crane available instead of matching the machine to the job, has anyone else noticed this cost creeping up on smaller sites?

Wait, isn't the bigger crane actually costing more in rental and setup? I used to think bigger was always better for safety, but seeing a 60 ton for a 2 ton beam really drove home how much waste that adds up to. It totally changed my view on matching the crane to the real needs.

Is it just me, or does this same mindset show up everywhere not just on job sites? I swear I see it all the time, like when someone buys a giant pickup truck to haul a couple bags of mulch from the hardware store. It's like we're all conditioned to think bigger means better, even when it's just burning cash and space. The waste adds up quick, whether it's crane capacity or engine power you're not using. Sometimes the right tool for the job is just the one that fits, not the one that looks impressive.
