Had a tricky lift with a 20-ton load in a tight Philly alley last Tuesday
The jib was almost touching the brick wall on one side and a fire escape on the other. My spotter, Mike, suggested I try a two-block setup with the main and whip lines together, which gave me way more control for the slow crawl. I'd never tried that for a tight spot before, but it worked perfectly. Anyone else have a go-to trick for squeezing into a really tight space?

That two-block setup is a solid move. My buddy had a similar thing with a big AC unit in an old Boston neighborhood. They ended up using a tag line on a snatch block to walk it sideways through a gate maybe two inches wider than the load. Said it felt like threading a needle but with a building.

Honestly that method sounds way too risky for most crews. Two inches of clearance is basically asking for property damage or worse. A proper lift plan would call for taking the gate off its hinges or finding another path. Your buddy got lucky, but that's not a solid move, it's a dangerous shortcut.
