Bumping the load limit for a certified 3 ton chainfall, do we trust the tag or the test?
Had a job in Gary, Indiana last week where the rigging crew wanted to hang a 5800 lb spreader bar off a 3 ton chainfall. The tag says 3 ton but the shop foreman said he has seen those tags be off by 15 percent on older units. I told him the load chart is the load chart, he told me the tag is just a sticker and the proof test is what counts. Where do you all land on this, do you go by the stamped rating or do you want a fresh proof test before you pick anything close to the limit?
