Took me 5 years to realize I was overfilling foils with color
I used to pile on so much lightener that it would bleed through the foil and stain every section. A client pointed it out last month when she saw orange spots on her scalp after a rinse. I cut my product use by half and now I just saturate the hair inside the foil, not the whole packet. Has anyone else found a better way to keep foils clean without wasting product?

Wait, hold up - orange spots from the rinse? That's wild. I've never seen that happen before but now I'm kinda paranoid about my own technique. @maxhart mentioned squeezing the tube lightly and keeping edges dry, which makes total sense because I've been guilty of the opposite. That's actually a solid wake up call for me too because my foils always look like a Jackson Pollock painting by the time I'm done. The whole "saturate the hair not the foil" tip from the original post is simple but I bet it saves so much headache. Never thought about bleeding as a sign of using too much product either.

As a former overfiller myself, I used to think more product meant better results. But after cleaning up so many stained scalps and wasted bleach, I finally got smart about it. Now I just squeeze the tube lightly and paint it on the hair inside the foil, keeping the edges dry. It takes practice to find that sweet spot where the lightener is enough but not dripping everywhere. Your client did you a favor pointing out those orange spots - that was my wake up call too.
